Karl Brand came to the United States from Germany as a young man. After serving in the Army, he and his wife Helga began a seasonings business in New Jersey—a blend of science and art. Karl and Helga Brand were grateful for the opportunities given to them in this country and were determined to give back. When they became part-time Naples residents over a decade ago, they embraced their new community—particularly NCH because they were amazed at what physicians could do with the right science and tools. Growth for the hospital was important to them; they could help professionals do their jobs and, at the same time, their gift would impact people in all walks of life. They enjoyed connecting with other hospital supporters at social events such as the Hospital Ball and the Magnolia Ball.

In 2005 they made a commitment to NCH in their estate plan in support of an expansion of the NCH North Naples hospital and became members of the Banyan Society. While their annual gifts to the hospital were modest, their legacy gift was not. The gift came to fruition in July 2018. The NCH Karl and Helga Brand Endowment will honor their memory with annual gifts made from the interest earned—more than 20 times the cumulative gifts given each year during their lives. At their request, the funds will be used for the area of greatest need.
